Work you can also be eyeing IRL if you come to the DAAP Makers Market this Saturday!
This Saturday we are excited to be back inside the walls and halls of DAAP for the first DAAP Makers Market! The DAAP Makers Market is an event where students and alumni can sell and buy goods as well as interact with other members of the Cincinnati design community. We see it as a gathering of old friends and new friends alike! We are excited to touch base with vendors we stock (Amanda Bialk, CKTC Ceramics + James Billiter) but we are most excited to meet new people and check out the student work!
The vendor list for this event is long and filled with incredible talent! The DAAP Makers Market Blog has done an amazing job of spotlighting/interviewing makers leading up to the event (you can read our interview here)—which inspired us to do the same! So, without rambling on for too long—here is a preview of four vendors we are excited to meet/check out their work in person!
Rachael is a fifth year in the Graphic Communication Design program at DAAP and has an impressive portfolio of design work and photography on her site. At the Makers Market she will be selling these super fun, brightly colored hanging planters that were inspired by her two favorite hobbies—crafting + gardening. We share those hobbies with Rachael and could probably use a hanging planter since our window shelf is already completely full of plants!
Shay is in grad school at DAAP with a focus on UX. Aside from her impressive resume and portfolio of work, she also enjoys drawing and sharing her creations on Instagram! On her blog she says, "To me, drawing is also a way of seeing the world, a way of thinking, and a way of meditation." and we are absolutely captivated by her work! At the Makers Market she will be selling greeting cards, post cards and posters. Greeting cards are kind of our thing so clearly, we're excited to see what Shay has created!
Jia Lu is an industrial design student at DAAP with a midwest mentality and an adventurous curiosity. She is drawn to design for the same reason most of us designers are—we just love problem solving! At the market she will be selling leather and canvas products. We are eager to check out her capstone product in person! If you're as interested in these beautiful, minimal high quality bags as we are you can follow her progress on Instagram.
Bryce is a senior industrial design student at DAAP with a knack for illustration. And when we say knack we mean he is seriously talented! At the makers market he will be selling prints and illustrations. You can check out more of his work by scrolling through his Instagram feed—a mesmerizing gallery of clean lines that will have you dreaming about your next tattoo.
Like we said before, this is just a small snapshot of the incredible work you are going to encounter at the DAAP Makers Market this year. For the full list of vendors click this link. Trust us, you won't want to miss this event. Mark your calendars for Saturday March 4th from 1–5p and we can't wait to see you there!
